About Us
Founded and registered on the 7 th of June 2005 by the senior divisional Officer for Wouri Declaration N°538/1/C19/BAPP of 07 June 2005 in Douala. SURA-MAMA is a non-profit organization regulated by law N°:90/053 of 19 th December 1990 on freedoms of Association in Cameroon. The seat of the organization is in Douala – Littoral Region.
SURA-MAMA is engaged in advocating and taking actions for the empowerment of indigenous women and girls through sensitization, Advocacy,economic empowerment as well as field activities. SURA-MAMA is also engage in empowering
women to be part of decision making processes through political participation,environmental protection and human rights.
SURA-MAMA as one of the Indigenous Organizations that effectively represent the interest of Mbororo community, is partnering with government ministries, like Ministry for the promotion of women and the family (MINPROFF), Ministry of social Affairs (MINAS) and other Regional networks of Indigenous people to address vital problems faced by Mbororo people.
SURA-MAMA is also affiliated to some regional networks like REPALEAC (The Network of Indigenous and local populations for the sustainable Management of Central African forest Ecosystem),acting as the focal point organization representing the network in the working group on Biodiversity (GTBAC).GTBAC is a thematic working group on biodiversity for the Commission of central African forest (COMIFAC) countries in Central Africa. And the Cameroon Climate changeworking Group (CCCWG).
Affiliated to ROSCEVAC (The Civil Society Network for Green Economy in Central Africa)and African Women Leaders Network where SURA-MAMA is responsible for the commission of Youth and Vulnerable persons.
Our Objectives
1.To economically empower the indigenous women and girls through income
generating activities
2.To support Education and training of indigenous women and girls
3.To protect and promote the rights of women and girls
4.To protect the traditional knowledge associated to biodiversity conservation and
natural resource.
5.To support climate change adaptation and sustainable livelihoods of indigenous
women
6.To advocate for women leadership and participation in decision making processing
